Simple every day precautions can help keep you and your private information safe.

Malware: Don't open any attachments that you aren't expecting. Even if you know the person sending the attachment to you. Verify they sent it to you before you open.
Ransomware: Same as malware, if you do fall victim it's best if you have a backup of your data. Paying the ransom can be expensive and there is no guarantee that you will get access to your data.
Phishing Attacks: It can't be repeated enough. Don't open unexpected attachments. These will take you to official looking websites, trick you into giving them your credentials, allowing the criminal access to your personal information.
